Walking With Africans (WAF) is a network of generous individuals who believe in the power of partnership and are committed to working with table banking groups in rural Africa to help build their capacity and provide opportunities. The relationships developed and the mentorship provided is as big a part of the success of the organization as any financial support that our board provides to groups in Kenya and Malawi.

We believe that by empowering the members of our groups and helping them build their business, they then can provide the ‘hand up’ to their neighbors there as well. By using systems like table banking/village banking, which is already established in these countries, operating through already established cultural norms like ‘harambe’, and providing a local advisor for immediate support, we are rewarded with seeing the continued growth and success of our groups. When board members are able to visit, these relationships are deepened both professionally and personally.

Walking with Africans members are particularly interested in developing the potential of the women in these groups allowing them to make substantial contributions to their families, education of their children, and those in need in their communities.

We are a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization founded in 2009. At our core, we are volunteer-driven and run by caring people who have bonded over our common interests to support others and provide that hand up over a hand out. We have fostered friendships beyond our business partnerships with these groups and enjoy our regular communication with each of them.
